Barcelona receives the best horses of the world during the CSIO Barcelona 2017

13 of the 20 best horsemen and riders from all over the world will be here”, said Santiago Mercé, the new president of the CSIO Barcelona in the Official Presentation of the CSIO Barcelona 2017, the 106th edition of this international sporting event, the oldest in Spain, which will be hosted from next Thursday, September 28 to Sunday, October 1, the Royal Polo Club of Barcelona.

 A luxury poster that will be held for a total of 8 horse-racing competitions over four days, including the Longines FEI Nations Cup Final Jumping, the most important international team competition.

 The best riders will compete in Barcelona

 Germany, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, France, Great Britain, United Arab Emirates, United States, Holland, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Sweden, Switzerland and Spain. A total of 15 teams come to Barcelona with their best representatives, among them the American Mclain Ward, 3rd in the world ranking (Olympic gold medal by teams in Athens and Peking), Frenchman Kevin Staut (medal gold by teams in Rio’s Olympic Games) and 4th in the world ranking; the British Scott Brash, 5th in the world ranking and gold by teams in the Olympic Games of London; the Swedish Peder Fredricson, silver medalist in the Rio Olympic Games and the new European Champion among many others.

 Spain has also confirmed during the past few days the quintet that will compete for the Nations Cup. This will be formed by the usual: Eduardo Alvarez Aznar, Julio Arias, Manuel Fernandez Saro, Gerardo Menéndez Mieres, all of them and with a novelty: the young Catalonian Amazon Laura Roquet, who arrives in Barcelona with many podiums behind her, makes her debut as a member of the national team in a top division five-star CSIO.

 The presentation of the CSIO Barcelona 2017 was also attended by Messrs. Gerard M. Figueras, Secretary General of Sports of the Generalitat de Catalunya; David Escudé, commissioner of Sports of the Barcelona City Council; Daniel Laga; coordinator of Sports of the Diputación de Barcelona; Francisco Espinós, president of RCPB; Emilio Zegrí, president of the RCPB Foundation; Daniel Garcia Giró, director of the CSIO Barcelona and Karim Lahleh, commercial director of the FEI (Fédération Equestre Internationale).

Emilio Zegrí, president of the RCPB Foundation, has highlighted the social aspect of the competition, with initiatives carried out by the Barcelona Equestrian Challenge as “a jump for the city”. And David Escudé, commissioner of Sports of the Barcelona City Council, has emphasized the “great example of public-private collaboration” represented by CSIO Barcelona.

The PoloPark returns, more and better

 One of the great attractions of CSIO Barcelona 2017 will be the PoloPark, a festival of creative experiences, new trends, gastronomy, and entertainment activities under the motto “FOOD, FUN & JUMP!”. During the four days of the competition, the field of Polo, an area of 20,000 m2 will be transformed into a large area with diversity of proposals for all audiences: Little Rider’s Corner incorporating the popular Pony Park; Kids Park a children’s amusement area; a wide quality gastronomic offer with the Foodie Fest; Market and Brand Village areas for shopping; the Horse & Rider area, where you can find all kinds of equestrian products; or the new Body & Mind zone, to relax and take care of our body and mind; and all this enlivened with music and live shows every day of the hand of emerging artists.

 An edition filled with memories and tribute to the Olympic Team

The CSIO Barcelona 2017 coincides with a double anniversary: the 120th anniversary of the Royal Polo Club in Barcelona and the 25th anniversary of the Barcelona ’92 Olympic Games. One of the city’s historic clubs will use these four days to remember with emotion how it came to light so many years ago or how it was transformed 25 years ago with the arrival of the Olympic flame. There will be a warm tribute to the Olympic Team of 92 composed by Cayetano Martinez de Irujo, Luis Astolfi, Enrique Sarasola and Luis Álvarez Cervera. The 106th edition of the CSIO Barcelona will be held at the Royal Polo Club in Barcelona from 28 September to 1 October. On Thursday 28th there will be free entrance.
