Piergiorgio Bucci wins the Longines FEI World Cup Grand Prix City of Madrid at IFEMA Madrid Horse Week

Italian rider Piergiorgio Bucci won today the Longines FEI World Cup Grand Prix City of Madrid, held at IFEMA Madrid Horse Week. Bucci, riding Hantano, clocked an unbeatable time of 40.77 seconds in the tiebreaker, thus achieving the victory in the most awaited event of this weekend, followed by Irish rider Michael Pender, riding HHS Los Angeles, who finished his ride in 41.42 seconds. Dutch rider Maikel van der Vleuten, with Beauville Z, completed the podium in third place, with a time of 41.48 seconds.A total of 13 riders went through to the tiebreaker, but only 4 managed to complete the course without faults. The first rider to do so was Germany's Marcus Ehning, who with Coolio 42 looked set to take the win, but his time was quickly beaten by subsequent competitors.The last rider to go, Michael Pender, had a fast ride, but failed to beat Bucci's time. Thus, the Italian took first place, leaving the other competitors behind.Mariano Martinez Bastida, the best Spaniard in the test, was the only Spanish representative to make it through to the tiebreaker with Belano vd Wijnhoeve. The winner's trophy was presented by Almudena Maillo, Councillor Delegate for Tourism of the Madrid City Council, and the Longines watch by Elena Orozco, Brand Manager of Longines Spain.This exciting Grand Prix was the finishing touch to a day full of adrenaline at IFEMA Madrid Horse Week, where the best riders in the world fought for victory.
