Since he started competing in adult competitions, he accumulated an exquisite sports career. Together with the Dutch National team, he has achieved silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics, Gold at the 2014 Caen World Equestrian Games and silver medal in Herning 2022. He has been the proclaimed winner of the European Championship in 2015 and has participated in numerous Nations Cup finals. In the individual competition, Maikel has achieved bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Herning 2022. He currently holds the #8 spot in the Longines FEI Ranking.
